A hilltop village full of peace on a wooded and sunny ridge, Cavandone is the ideal place to walk, enjoy the view and immerse yourself in the atmosphere. Built almost entirely in stone, the village of Cavandone was practically abandoned. In the last 30 years, thanks to the magnificent position that allows a superb view of the Alps to the north and Lake Maggiore to the south, the residents are back and have begun to restructure the old village houses, mostly in beautiful exposed stone. On my opinion this is a complete walk, relaxing and interesting as well. One of the masterpiece to admire the whole Borromean gulf of Lake Maggiore.
- The tour starts from Stresa by public bus and the walk starts form the Natural Reserve of Fondotoce (10 min by public transportation), - Next to the lake, to reach the characteristic hamlet of Cavandone, over Verbania. - The village of stone houses stands on the sunny and woody slope of Monterosso from where we can enjoy beautiful vistas on lake Maggiore and the Val Grande's peaks. - The centenary yew plant of Cavandone , near to the Parish, is one of the oldest in Italy and deserve a pic! - The itinerary follows ancient pilgrims paths among woods, old chapels with ruined frescoes and vistas over the Borromean gulf. The pathway never become too steep and the height difference is about 230 mt. NOTE: The tour can be customized on your preferences.
