During the 16th and 17th centuries, Tivoli was an essential stop for travelers on the Grand Tour. Today, visitors can still enjoy breathtaking views over the ancient acropolis and the stunning natural landscape, which has been immortalized in artworks by artists from around the world. Tivoli, located 18 miles east of Rome, has been a residential area since ancient Roman times, thanks to its position on the slopes of the Tiburtini Hills, along the Aniene River. At the archaeological site of Villa Adriana, we can explore the impressive ruins of over 30 buildings, featuring grand architecture, intricate mosaics, and colorful marble decorations. Not far from here, the late Renaissance Villa D'Este reflects the aspirations of its patron, Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, the governor of Tivoli, who dreamed of becoming Pope. The villa complex includes a beautifully frescoed palace and an Italian-style terraced garden with nearly 50 monumental fountains.
-Pick up at your hotel by Mercedes with driver; drive along Via Tiburtina to Tivoli (18 miles east of Rome) -Visit Villa Adriana Archeological Park: The Pecile, The Canopus, The Maritime Theatre, The Great and Small Baths, The Greek Library and Latin Library -Lunch Break -Visit Villa D'Este: The Palace -The order of the visit may change according to time of day and season -On rainy days the water in the fountains is turned off at Villa d'Este -Villa Adriana is an Archeological park; we will walk 2 miles on average, 0. 3 miles to reach the ruins. -Villa d'Este is more vertical than horizontal- there are many steps and slopes; Note: the itinerary may change due to traffic in the city.
