Itinerary not perfect? Message Paolo A. to build a tour that’s just right for you.
Have you ever been in a Palace where the same family has been living for centuries and that has been the location of the 1950's smash-hit movie "Roman Holiday"? Well in Rome you can and I'm talking about the dazzling Colonna Palace. Is one of the cannot-be-missed off-the-beaten-track places that was opened to the public for the first time in 1703 by Filippo II and for his decision has been opened every single Saturday morning ever since. If you are in Rome on Saturday morning don't miss this chance to be able to walk through the galleries where are on display countless works of art and through the rooms where lived umpteen successors of this family. In this tour is included also a visit to Princess Isabel apartment on the ground floor where she lived for 75 years and where after the fall of the monarchy in Italy, finding herself in the role of the "alternate queen" or the "substitute queen", she used to throw parties for the high society of the period where were invited only people who were not divorced.
The Colonna Gardens ( where the lawn is so well manteined that seems like a carpet) where we can start talking about this family - The Military Column Room - The Big Room ( this is where they filmed the last scene of the 1950's movie "Roman Holidays" starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn) - Huge treasure chests encrusted with jewels - The Room of Pope Martino V's Apotheosis - Super famous "The Bean Eater" by Annibale Carracci - Room of the Throne - Embroideries Room - Princess Isabel Sursock's apartment Palazzo Colonna is open only on Saturday mornings. Please write me if there are people with mobility problems. and if you use or need a wheelchair Please remember to bring your ID with you (the passport photo on the phone works)
