Caravaggio born in Milan in 1571, was in Rome by the end of the 1580's to 1606 We'll admire some of the most beautiful masterpieces in the original churches for which they were commissioned: Church of Santa Maria del Popolo with the paintings of Saint Paul's Conversion and the Crucifixion of Saint Peter, Church of Sant'Agostino with The Madonna of Pilgrims, Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, one of the French churches in Rome with the three paintings depicting stories of Saint Matthew (these are the first altarpieces ever painted by Caravaggio). Caravaggio: A genius with a violent temper, he killed two men and he spent his short life escaping from the capital execution to Naples, Malta, Sicily He changed the way of observing and representing nature and the human being, famous for the dramatic use of the light known as "tenebrism" and the realistic way to represent life, he made a revolution in the technics of paintings and he's today considered one of the most representative artist of the Baroque period!
