Just ask yourself this question. . . what attracts you to the city? Ancient monuments, sculptures, legends, pagan society, superstition and so much more I guess. But what better way to learn and explore a site that encapsulates all those attractions? The answer is the Capitoline Museum. We are all enthusiastic about the funding of Rome, the day-to-day life of its citizens and what led this minuscule village to emerge as one of the most enduring empires the world has ever known. By exploring this museum will get a better understanding of the republican/imperial time and appreciate its fabulous collection.
Our tour will include the visit of 2 buildings; one being *the Palazzo dei Conservatori , headquarter of the magistrates until the 16th C now hosting the sculptures collection and mural paintings. . the courtyard; which contains different group of roman sculptures and marble fragments based on the provinces of the Roman empire and its trophies. . the apartment; mainly based on frescoes about Rome's foundation. . scupltures. "she-wolf statue", "Marcus Aurelius" equestrian bronze statue, the "Spinario"statuette of a young boy pulling the thorn off his foot just to name a few. . the basement of the temple of Jupiter * The Palazzo Nuovo on the opposite side built in the 17th C has the Albani collection (418 sculptures) which were acquired by the pope Clemens XII. . The colossal statues of Marforio, Mars, Minerva. . the wonderful roman epigraphs, documents and sarcophagi . bust of emperors, philosophers and great mind of ancient greece. without mentioning its sumptuous palace and exquisite coffered ceilings.
