The Gallery was built in 1612 by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V, to house his art collection. The building was part of a larger project to celebrate the family and establish its position in Romane society: an almost 220-acre spark with various buildings. Not only do we have the opportunity to see awesome masterpieces, but we also go deeper into history of the family: taste in art and cultural policy. Scipione was a shrewd collector and a keen patron of the arts. He was particularly interested in classical, Renaissance and contemporary art evoking a new golden age, and used both fair and foul means to acquire the artworks. Among others we can admire: paintings by Tiziano, Raphael, Correggio, Caravaggio; sculptures by Bernini commissioned for the Gallery; the portrait of Pauline Bonaparte by Canova. I graduated with a degree in Art History and have worked in art communication ever since, follow me and I will reveal to you all my knowledge and passion for art!
