The ancient city of Pompeii is probably the most important archaeological site in the world. . . And a tour here led by an archeologist, even better!

In the past, it was an agricultural and commercial center where about 20000 people lived. The eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD covered it under about 8 meters of pumice, lapilli and ash.

The tour lasts about 3 hours and will be a journey through history where you will see houses, theaters, baths, shops, brothels, casts of the victims, in an incredible state of conservation. It is a unique emotion to visit a Roman city that integrates in all its architectural aspects. During the tour I will talk about the public and private life of the ancient Romans. . . It will be like travelling back in time!

Pompeii wasn't the only city destroyed by the eruption on 79 A. D. , but it's the most famous one: if you want to visit a typical roman colony, Pompeii is the best!

On 79 A. D. the most tragic eruption of the Mount Vesuvius came: the city was buried by the ash, then preserved under it. Visiting Pompeii, you will see how they were modern! Walking around it, you admire houses, shops, public buildings of the Forum (the main square, the heart of the city), decorations as frescoes and mosaics. And it's the only city with the plaster casts, the real victims of the eruption.
It's not easy to preserve everything, maybe we will see archeologists and restorers at work! and it is simply amazing.

It's impossible to visit the whole city, as you will see, it's very huge, maybe larger than you think. Some areas, as I will tell you, are closed to the public because of new excavations. But on our tour I will show you the most important areas and the traditional buildings, with beautiful landscapes all around us.

Walking around an ancient but modern city

A walk through Spaccanapoli street to discover Neapolitan folklore and its stunning cultural heritage. Along this road, we will visit the mysterious Church del Gesù, the elegant Church of Santa Chiara and its colourful, vivid cloister, covered with yellow, green and blue tiles, called "riggiole". Silence, trees of oranges and ancient frescos will let us travel into the past.

We'll come back to the current everyday life at San Domenico Square, to taste some of the gastronomical monuments of Neapolitan pastry: Sfogliatella and Babà. The mysterious alchemist Raimondo de Sangro Prince of Sansevero will meet us in his unmissable chapel. Inside, we will visit the Veiled Christ and the macabre anatomic machines.

In San Gregorio Armeno, I will show you thousands of cribs, figurines, lucky charms. After tasting the real pizza or pasta with ragù, we'll visit the Cathedral and Caravaggio's Seven Works of Mercy.
