Art and history in Assisi: half day tour

Discover the millenary history of Assisi from the golden Roman past of Assisi to the jewels of the Medieval architectures. This tour will lead you to find out the unknown face of the little Umbrian town in search of unique masterpieces of art and the untouched traces left by the Romans. Our walk through the old town will take you to uncover the traces of the old Roman amphitheater to the main square with its outstanding Roman Temple of Minerva, dating back to the 1st century b. c. and traces of the old forum area. We will then continue through the Medieval alleys to the Basilica of St. Francis, built in 1228 to house the remains of the founder of the Franciscan order, enriched during the centuries by the masterpieces of medieval and renaissance masters, such as Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini and the Lorenzetti brothers.
