Palermo is an amazing town, full of contrasts. of different influences of different people who governed Sicily. Some of the historical buildings have been declared human heritage by UNESCO. Some of these are included in this itinerary! The itinerary will start with the visit of the Palatine Chapel, the amazing chapel inside the royal palace of Palermo, where different styles are mixed, the wonderful wooden roof painted, the marble floor, the Byzantine mosaics. A real treasure- The days of opening can be visited the rooms of the royal palace too. Cathedral of Palermo "a history of art book", as I use to call, of the town, for the different elements added along the centuries. The heart of old town: the square Villiena, called the Quattro Canti, the four symmetrical screen corners of the town, decorated with 3 levels of marble statues. On afternoon the itinerary can be continued, optional, with the visit of the Cathedral of Monreale, small town near Palermo, and the cloister of the ancient monastery.
On tour we will explore; In Palermo: - The Cathedral of Palermo - The main street Corso Vittorio Emanuele. - Piazza Bologni. - The square Quattro Canti (4 Corners) and take a picture. - The square Piazza Pretoria and take a picture of the Fontana della Vergogna (Fountain of the Shame). - The square Piazza Bellini and take a picture of the facades of the churches "Martorana" and "San Cataldo". - The church "Santa Caterina", visiting also its cloister. - Via Maqueda - The street market Capo and have a lunch break there. - The Teatro Massimo (Opera House) In Monreale: - The Cathedral of Monreale - Panoramic picture of Palermo from Monreale The itinerary can be customized according to your requests In the museums, in the archaeological sites and in general in all the churches dress code for both men and women requires shoulders and knees to be covered. Shorts and skirts are fine, but below knees. Do not bring large items (e. g. large bags, backpacks, long umbrellas…) on tour because they are not permitted.
