Discover the rich culture of this city by personally meeting artisans and discovering secret gardens and off the beaten path cloisters, yet close to the heart of the Old City! During this walk, we will stop at 2 artesanal lab-shops. In one, I'll introduce you to Paolo, an artisan who has dedicated his life to sculpting and carving clay and terracotta. In another one, I'll take you to meet Vincenzo, who is a master of detail, who crafts figurines and nativity scenes made from cork. Talking to them, you'll learn about the techniques, materials, inspirations and legends behind their work and get a personal view on Naples' artisanal world. I'll also take you to a hidden church cloister, an enchanted university courtyard and a beautiful palazzo where green oasis with statues, fountains and gardens are cherished in time. You'll even get to enjoy an aperitif drink in the secret garden of a famous 14th century palazzo.
·We'll start by immersing ourselves in the busy Neapolitan daily life and head to meet the artisan Vincenzo and his dad. We'll talk to them about a long-standing tradition which we'll get to see first hand: creating nativity scenes with cork. ·Then we'll head towards the Church of S.Gregorio Armeno on the street of nativities. Mostly overlooked by tourists, it has a beautiful garden with statues and lemon trees. ·We'll then cross the bustling Spaccanapoli towards our next stop: the lab-shop of Paolo, who works with clay and terracotta. Through his creations, we'll hear stories and legends that inspire artisans like him. ·Our next stop is the nearby monasterial complex of San Marcellino (750AD), an enchanted garden with statues, small fountains, a temple and secular trees which was repurposed as a University. ·Next, we'll return to Spaccanapoli and visit a prestigious palace: Palazzo Venezia now home to an art gallery and refined cafe where we'll end our tour enjoying an aperitif in its beautiful garden.
