Herculaneum, destroyed with Pompeii in AD 79 and rediscovered in 1709, was a residential town, without Pompeii commercial importance, surrounded by villa of wealthy Roman. Although it is smaller than Pompeii and less immediately striking, you'll be amazed by the incredible state of preservation of domestic buildings, especially their upper storeys and wooden parts, carbonized by the eruption. Gardens have been replanted, contributing to a feeling of life and humanity, not always achieved at Pompeii. We'll discover contrasting styles of house construction and gaze at outstanding works of art such as mosaics and frescoes. At Pompeii, ongoing conservation work requires the closure of certain houses from time to time. So when possible, I always try to include some 'new buildings' and new areas re-open to the public. Trust your tour in an Art Historian and experienced local guide that will take you back in time to the ancient roman life and take home a once in a lifetime experience with an unrivaled tour
The tour lasts approximately 2 hours during which we will visit the House of the Mosaic of Neptune and Amphitrite with it stunning mosaic, one of my favorite works of art coming from antiquity, the House of the Wooden Partition (which gets its name from a carbonize wooden wall within it, in an amazing shape due to the eruption), the Thermae, the Samnite House, the House of the Deer and shops. My tour is tailor-made according to people's expectations and needs.
