Milan

Six hundred years were needed to build up the Duomo. As a local (I was born in Milan!) I will let you have the best of it, visiting the inside of the Duomo and discovering its beautiful stained-glass-windows, visiting the old baptistery chapel underground (dating back to V Cent. a. C. ) and going up to the roof to enjoy Milan from above and to meet the 2. 000 statues located at the top of the Cathedral.
Then, by a historical tram, we'll end up in the canal district (kind of little Venice) where it will be possible to see the Canal "Grande", through which the marble used to build up the Duomo was transported since 1386.
It will be up to you, whether to stay in the district (filled up with restaurants and cafè) for lunch/dinner or an ice-cream/ aperitif.

One of the most suggestive ossuary in Italy is inside the Church of San Bernardino alle Ossa in the centre of Milan, just few minutes away from Duomo square. the Ossuary was built to move the remains from Milan Hospital cemetery. When the church collapsed because of a fire, the ossuary was re-built and its walls decorated with bones, who form geometrical shapes, crosses and so on. People say that on Oct 31st the bones of a child sneak out and start dancing. If you pass by, you can hear creepy noises!

Let's start the visit from Moscova street, easy to reach also with public transportation.
We will stroll along the renovated corso Garibaldi, quiet shopping area in the daytime and lively avenue for the milanese nightlife. We will have a look at Eataly's largest store in the city - and of course we can enter to buy some exquisite italian grocery!
Let's now dedicate to contemporary architecture: the district of Porta Nuova is a sampler of creativity and innovation and piazza Gae Aulenti is the heart of this area. We will see the most famous italian skyscrapers, the Unicredit Tower, the Vertical Forest. . . And we will discover why in Milan there is a place called "Isola", the Island.

Milanese Contemporary Architecture

Palazzo Brera was built on the remains of a 14th century monastery of the Humiliati order which was subsequently given to the Jesuits, who founded a school here. Francesco Maria Richini began in the early 17th century to turn it into the austere building we see today.
Since the XVIII century, the building houses several of the city's leading cultural institutes:
•the Astronomical Observatory and its Museum (1762)
•the National Library, Biblioteca Nazionale Braidense (1770-86)
•the Fine Arts Academy, which is a state-run university (1776)
•the Botanical Garden, a silent oasis of green in a secluded spot (1774)
•the Istituto Accademia di Scienze e Lettere, modelled on the Istitut de France for the purpose of collecting and cataloguing discoveries and of perfecting the arts and sciences (1797).
