Did you know Leonardo spent more than 20 years in Milan? Of course he was from Vinci, a small village of Florence but when he was 30, he moved from Florence to Milan and here he worked for the Sforzas, the Lords of Milan, as a painter, as an engineer, as an inventor and as a set designer, planning parties and celebrations organized inside the Castle by the Dukes themselves. In the Ambrosiana Painting Gallery, we will discover together the famous Portrait of a Musician by hand of Leonardo and some of the amazing folios of the Atlantic Codex, the thickest collection of Da Vinci's original writings and sketches, testifying to the myriads of interests of this genial mind. The Ambrosiana preserves some other true masterpieces, a Titian, a Caravaggio, and an exceptional Renaissance cartoon, that of The School of Athens, designed by Raphael for the Vatican Rooms in Rome. The third protagonist of Renaissance we will meet is Michelangelo: the Sforza Castle preserves his last masterpiece The famous Pietà Rondanini.
•The Ambrosiana Painting Gallery (closed on Wednesday) •Sforza Castle and the Museum of the Pietà Rondanini (closed on Mondays) We can customize the tour and add a visit to San Maurizio Church, nicknamed the Sistine Chapel of Milan, a 10, 000-square-foot sanctuary of Renaissance frescoes, or the Last Supper, if tickets are available. If you would like to add a visit to The Last Supper, Milan's Sistine Chapel, or other places you prefer, please contact me. In the museums, in the archaeological sites, and in general, in all the churches dress code for both men and women requires shoulders and knees to be covered. Shorts and skirts are fine, but below the knees. Do not bring large items (e. g. large bags, backpacks, long umbrellas…) on tour because they are not permitted.
