You will be picked up from the cruise terminal in Livorno and driven from there towards the Cinque Terre National Park. On the way there you will b able to admire the greatness of the Carrara marble quarry that you will see on your right hand side. You will be driven through the city of La Spezia and start climbing the mountain until you reach Manarola, the second of the five villages. Over there your driver guide will help you out purchasing tickets for the ferry the will be taking you to Vernazza first , and Monterosso afterwards . After you board the ferry in Manarola, I will drive to Monterosso where I will be meeting you as you get off the ferry.

During the II World War my grandparents moved from Pisa to Volterra to find a safe place. There they meet a family that took care of them. They became friends and more. . . (one of my sisters married one of them 30 years ago).

Volterra is the place where I feel at home, a city with 3000 years of history, born with the name of Velathri thanks to the Etruscan people. On the highest hill of the Cecina valley, in the deepest Tuscany, Volterra looks like a golden city, thanks to the tuff stone used for its buildings. At the Roman times the theater and thermal buildings were born and they are still visible. The most important period was the Middle Ages. Moving through its narrow alleys is like walking in a labyrinth. A real Tuscan jewel!

Roman City of Lucca - Half Day Walking Tour

On this tour I will show you how Lucca was originally a Roman city, founded by the Romans in 180 BC.

Back then, Lucca followed the standards of other Roman cities: it had the Forum right in the city centre, where now, centuries afterwards, it has been replaced by Piazza San Michele in Foro. It also had a theatre and amphitheatre that today are the symbol of Lucca, and besides that, there of course were the defensive Roman walls.

Together we will visit what is left of the Roman city of Lucca and I will point out to what has been reused from the original architecture, including the roman columns that have been reused in some current churches and squares.

You will be amazed to seeing the remaining of these constructions that actually date back to 180 BC.

I'm a foreigner, but I consider myself a Pisan because I've been in love with this city for longtime. Pisa is a self-made city, a small town over a swamp that became one of the most important maritime empires. People from all over the Mediterranean sea came to Pisa and so it became the bridge between the Western and Eastern worlds. That's why I think people deserve to see it all.
I'm a guide by trade, a bookworm by nature and a teacher by vocation: that's why my goal with this job is to be able to help the people understand this town while enjoying a nice experience. This tour was designed to be comfortable, enjoyable and fun. Our starting point will be the Square of the Cathedral, in which is located the Tower. We'll then go into the old town and visit the second most famous square, the one of the Knights. After that we'll wander around the river bansk of the Arno, the Renaissance palaces and the tower houses. Once we're done we'll go to a local restaurant and we'll have a taste of this town.
