On this tour, we'll visit the main plazas of this magnificent city to better understand its identity and its spirit. Our itinerary will cover all 4 historic neighbourhoods of Florence, each one represented by a church. I'll bring you into the traditions of each neighbourhood by telling you about the facts and the people (some more famous than others) that belonged to each of them. We'll also talk about sports, most of them which have now disappeared. But one still remains and it is played every year. The "calcio storico" still enlightens the souls of the Florentines, as well as mine, as I had the opportunity to participate in it! We'll see the Piazza where it is held and I'll unveil the reasons behind it. Another key point of our visit will be the food! Every single city and town (not state) here in Europe has its own culinary tradition, and if you think pizza represents Florence you can't be more off track with that! I'm sure you'll see Florence with different eyes after this experience with me!
·The tour should ideally start in Piazza Santa Maria Novella, to better give a chronology to the events we'll discuss, but I can meet you at your hotel if it is more confortable for you and customize the itinerary from there. ·Next, we'll reach Piazza del Duomo where we'll talk about the cathedral, the Baptistery and the events that happened around these two buildings. ·Afterwards, we'll visit Piazza della Signoria, the political center of Florence where we'll talk about politics trough art. ·Then it's on to Ponte Vecchio with its jewellery district. ·Later, while walking to our following destination, we'll stop by a local gelateria where I'll tell you how to recognize a genuine gelato, and where we'll taste a very delicious one. ·Next, we'll get to Santo Spirito, where a very young Michelangelo studied the anatomy that characterizes his masterpieces. ·At last, we'll reach Santa Croce, the sanctuary of the european glories and a place where the ancient carnival football is still played nowadays.
