Matera is a city like no other, picturesque and impressive. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and a place with a look and history so unique that it defies belief. The city of the "Sassi", a tangle of steps and alleys, churches and bell towers, arches and terraces, and houses piled on top of each other, which incorporate and hide ancient caves inhabited since the Paleolithic until the 1950s. With its disarming beauty, one of a kind, it has inspired writers, poets and filmmakers in search of mystical and oriental atmospheres to set their films such as "The Nativity Story" by Mel Gibson or "Mission Impossible 8" and many others. For me, doing the tour in Matera is always exciting. As a history enthusiast and scholar, I love retracing the alleys and streets in search of new details and breathing in the history of such a unique city.
