Bologna "la grassa" means "the fat city". Well, during this tour you'll experience why this nickname is so appropriate! I am going to bring you to my favorite places to taste a bit of the best this "capital of food" can offer: mortadella, freshly made pasta, gelato. . . and above all, I will share with you a very precious personal heritage: Nonna Flora's ragù (Bolognese sauce) recipe! She's been my mentor when it comes to local food. She was born in the countryside and she told me so many stories about food making and life in a farm. I believe modern times would be different without the past ones: this is what inspires me when I share local food knowledge in front of a bite of local food and a sip of local wine! The itinerary is flexible, for any changes please let me know. Please advise prior to booking if you have allergies or food intolerances. Order and food proposals may vary in case of need.
We'll start off by exploring the heart of Bologna, Piazza Maggiore, and perhaps have a small sweet Italian breakfast (cappuccino+sweet treat) before diving in one of the most historical food market of Bologna, the Quadrilatero district, where we'll try some mortadella and some parmigiano reggiano with a glass of local wine! Our neighbor, Modena, is where Traditional Balsamic Vinegar is made. Let's see how it is made and taste a few in order to learn how to use them in the kitchen. They call it "the black gold of Modena" for a reason... Bologna also means freshly made egg-based pasta and it also means "ragù", the local way to define the internationally known "bolognese sauce". Let's see how fresh pasta is made by meeting a professional "Sfoglina" and then having a taste of fresh pasta in another famous market! Last but not least: let's end the tour with dessert and have gelato in one of my favorite gelateria in Bologna.
