This is a half day guided tour in the medieval town of Assisi, a leisurely stroll through its picturesque alleyways from the Basilica of Saint Clare to the Basilica of Saint Francis. A mile and a half walk down the hill, time for a cup of tea on the main square between the city hall and the remains of an ancient Roman temple. Particular attention is dedicated to the frescoes of Giotto in the upper Basilica of Saint Francis. Giotto is considered by many historians the first artist developing a narrative and naturalistic style that owes little to the Byzantine culture of icons. Saint Francis' Basilica in fact shows the rise of western art.
Our walking tour goes from one end of the village to the other, for about 1 mile and a half. It is always possible to take a taxi back to the parking lot where we started.
