On the way of monks in the Sienese Crete: a day tour out of town between nature, art and spirituality

The tour stars with a route of great charme all through the Sienese Crete, lit. "Sienese clays", one the most suggestive tuscan landscape.
Following the traces of St. Bernard Tolomei we stop at the edge of the "Accona desert" a sort of oasis surrounded by the lunar Cretes, here on top of the hills between Asciano and Buonconvento, Bernard founded the Monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore (beginning of the 14th century), frescoed by Luca Signorelli and Sodoma, and which still houses the medieval cellar of the Olivetan monks.
The tour continues with the visit of Buonconvento, the name means Good convent but curiously no friars are mentioned here. The burg developed along the Via Francigena, ancient pilgrimage way connecting Canterbury to Rome, still showing its medieval town planning.
We'll end with a guided tour of the Sharecropping Museum or, if preferred, the Museum of Sacred Art of Valdarbia, preserving magnificent devotional icons of great Sienese artists, such as Duccio di Buoninsegna and Pietro Lorenzetti
