Tel Aviv is the thriving start-up, finance, and cultural capital of Israel and the Middle East. In this walking tour I will introduce you to some of the historical characters which catapulted the city into this role. We will meander through the neighborhood of Neve Tzedek and I will share stories of the influential, interesting characters who built and shaped this neighborhood. We will even see a neighborhood which was founded by Christians from Maine whose members were saved by Mark Twain! I will also take you to my favorite ice cream stand, situated amongst the quaint streets. We will continue to Tel Aviv and find about the ideas and people which shaped this city. Did you know Tel Aviv is famous for its coffee? We will have a chance to sample it from one of the many coffee houses. Finally, no tour would be complete without a visit to the Carmel Market to sample some authentic Israeli cuisine. There, in the market in a re-purposed synagogue, is some of the best humus around!
- Starting from the Ottoman Train Station (Tachana Rishona), we meander through the neighborhood of Neve Tzedek and hear stories of those who built and shaped it. We will see their schools, homes, synagogues, and theaters. We will even see a neighborhood which was founded by Christians from Maine whose members were saved by Mark Twain! While in Neve Tzedek, we can enjoy local ice cream or a peak into one of the boutique shops. - From there we will continue to Tel Aviv and encounter the motives of her founders. The first business in Tel Aviv was a corner kiosk offering coffee - the basis for today's coffee culture here which we will sample. Tel Aviv became over the years the Start-up center of Israel and the Middle East. - We will stroll through Tel Aviv's streets on our way to the Carmel Market, one of the most colorful in Israel. - At the Carmel Market we can sample some street food including awesome humus!
