Starting from the Sea Terminal for an introduction to the Island and its capital, we start our walk along the magnificent two-mile sweep of Douglas's fine promenade. The first section, Loch Promenade, was reclaimed from the sea in the 1870s to build the grand hotels, most of which still stand today. Strolling through the sunken gardens, we see the Tower of Refuge out in the bay - a sanctuary for shipwrecked mariners. Passing the Gaiety Theatre and Villa Marina, we eventually arrive at the far end, where we board a horse-drawn tram - another reminder of the Victorian tourist boom - to take us leisurely all the way back to the Sea Terminal. I would be pleased to show you the rich heritage of my home town.
NB. Horse trams only operate in the summer months (April to September). - Introduction to IoM and Douglas at start, at Sea Terminal - Walk full length of Douglas Promenade (2 miles), looking at Victorian architecture, sunken gardens, Gaiety Theatre etc. - Relax on a horse-drawn tram all the way back.
