Ireland has been inhabited by humans for thousands of years. Throughout that long time, the Irish have endured many harsh times. However, even though life for the Irish was often difficult, they still developed a rich culture - unique in Europe- which sets them apart from other Europeans. As time passed, despite being invaded and ruled by the Vikings, the Normans and the English the Irish never lost their desire to be free and to be rulers of their own island on the wild NW edge of Europe. On this tour, I'll take you through the streets of Ireland's capital city -Dublin- and tell you the story of how it evolved from a small Viking settlement to become one of the world's centres of the digital revolution. Did you know that Ireland's history can be reflected in three paintings I have chosen from the collection in our National Art Gallery? Admission to the gallery is free. Please allow me to take you through the paintings and their hidden meanings. You will be surprised at the stories they tell!!
