Dublin Bay is not only known for its stunning vistas, but it is also steeped in a rich and turbulent history. Since its Viking origins over a thousand years ago, to the present day, Dublin has served as a key international port, reaching its zenith in the 18th century when it was the second largest city in the British Empire. Yet despite several expressions of intent over the years, no infrastructure has ever traversed the bay, so a vantage point of Dublin from the sea has never been afforded to anyone except to those approaching from the east by sea or air, until now! This tour avails of a relatively new cruise crossing of Dublin Bay where you can savour the sights from perspective unfamiliar with even most locals. But this tour offers much more than this. You will relive the development of Dubin's transport infrastructure as you travel along the world's oldest commuter railway. You may sample fresh seafood or other fare at a famous historic town and a fishing village, returning by train along the coast
We meet at Connolly Station near the city centre, from where we will take the train south to the famous and historic port of Dun Laoghaire. Here, you will have some time for light shopping, or visit one of several attractions, such as the National Maritime Museum, or simply stroll along the promenade and indulge in a delicious Teddy's Ice cream, a "not to be missed" treat of locals since 1950. Sit back and relax in the ferry and listen stories from the past as you savour the sights and sounds of the bay. After a 75 minute crossing, we arrive at the historic fishing village of Howth. Here, you will have a choice of fresh seafood in one of many restaurants on the pier, or more traditional fare, or perhaps you prefer the delicious street food at the village market. Our final leg is via train back to the city centre, passing several sites including the North Wall and Bull Island, before returning to Connolly Station.
