Tanjung Puting is one of the natural wonders of the world! After a couple of days, you will think so also as you immerse yourself. The area was originally declared as a game reserve in 1935 and a National Park in 1982, while the Park has a checkered history of weak protection, nonetheless, it remains substantially wild and natural. Tanjung Puting is covered by a complex mosaic of diverse lowland habitats. It contains 3, 040 km2 (or 1, 174 square miles) of low lying swampy terrain punctuated by blackwater rivers that flow into the Java Sea. The best-known animals in Tanjung Puting are the orangutans, made famous through the long-term efforts of the Orangutan Research and Conservation Programs (predecessor to OFI), based at the landmark Camp Leakey research station.
Day 01 PANGKALAN BUN - KUMAI - SEKONYER RIVER (L, D) On arrival at Pangkalan Bun airport, transfer to Kumai Port to board on the Klotok up the Sekonyer River. The Klotok is a traditional riverboat. You can choose to stay overnight at Rimba Lodge or on the boat. On the boat, there is a cabin with a mattress, pillows, meals, mineral water, mosquito net, kitchen, and a simple toilet. Day 02 CAMP LEAKEY ORANGUTANS (B, L, D) After breakfast, board the Klotok to cruise upriver for about 2 hours. Trek into the heart of the jungle and observe orangutans in their natural habitat. Lunch provided on the boat. Afternoon, visit the feeding station to see the rehabilitated orangutans. Enjoy a magnificent sunset on the way back. After dinner overnight at Rimba Lodge or on the boat. Day 03 KUMAI - PANGKALAN BUN - NEXT DESTINATION (B) After early breakfast, we will escort you to Kumai Jetty then proceed to Pangkalan Bun Airport to catch the flight for your next destination.
