2 Days Trek to Tonglu

Day 1: We drive down to a small village called Dhotrey via Manebhanjan. Dhotrey is located at an altitude of 2526 mts. It takes about 2.5 hours to reach Dhotrey from Darjeeling by car. Hike to Tonglu is a gradual uphill walking distance of 5 Kms. covered in 2.5 – 3 hrs. Trekking trail passes through a thick forest of rhododendron, magnolia and bamboo. Tonglu is located at an altitude of 3080 mts. On a clear day, you get magnificent view of Kanchenjunga snow peaks from Tonglu and if you are lucky, you can even see Mt. Everest. Day 2: We wake up early before dusk to witness the mesmerizing view of sun rise over the Kanchenjunga mountain range. After breakfast we return through alternate trail passing through Meghma, Chitrey and finally to Maneybhanjang. Total distance of 12 Kms covred in 5 to 6 hrs. It is worth a stop at these small villages and exchange few words of courtesy with the locals and get a glimpse of their simple yet Himalayan way of life.
