The Golden Circle is a classic tour when visiting Iceland. You will visit the National Park where the Vikings used to gather for Congress, The Geysir hot spring area, and the powerful waterfall Gullfoss. Most visitors take this tour and 90% of them do the bus tour. That is OK, but for small groups, it's much better to go on a private tour with a local guide.

When I have friends coming to visit I want them to see more. It depends a bit on the seasons, but whatever time of year, there is always something wonderful to explore off the beaten path. To make the experience even more fun and personal, I sometimes bring my super well-behaved Border Collies with me. For my youngest customers, the dogs usually make the day for them.

Almost everyone that comes to does the Golde Circle. It's understandable because on it are the three top places, Þingvellir, Geysir, and Gullfoss, to visit in the southwest corner of Iceland. Let me take you there. It's so much to see and learn and I have my secret spots that most people miss when they go there. . .

Furthermore, there are some options to choose from and I'm open to everything as long it's sensible to do it. For example, it can get crowded during high season and it's best to avoid it by starting the tour early to be ahead of the big couches.

The Golden Circle is probably the best day tour one can do from Reykjavík. And it is one of my favorites because, as a guide, I can speak about so many different topics in just one day.

On this Golden Circle and farm visits tour, you can learn about Icelandic history, nature, and culture. We can talk about glaciers and volcanoes, geothermal power and its different applications, and much more.

The Golden Circle. Three magnificent highlights of Iceland

On this tour we head out of Reykjavik and drive up to the mountains. The National Park of Thingvellir is just an hours drive from Reykjavik. It is among few places in the world where you can see the separation of the North American and the Eurasian plate. An easy walk down the Almannagjá Gorge will take you to the oldest democratic Parliament in the world founded in 930 AD.

As we drive further east we start driving through farmland and might spot some Icelandic horses on our way.

We stop in Geysir hot spring area. There you can see Strokkur hot spring as it spouts up to 100 feet in the air. Only ten minutes away are Gullfoss waterfalls one of the most spectacular of all waterfalls in Iceland.

After visiting the falls we head back to Reykjavik.

We will start by visiting Thingvellir National Park which is a Unesco World Heritage Site and is also one of the places in Iceland where you can see the North American tectonic plate meet the Eurasian tectonic plate. There is also a beautiful waterfall there; Öxarárfoss. The waterfall plays an important role in "The Game of Thrones. "

From Thingvellir we will carry on to the hot spring area; home of Geysir, our world famous hot spring. Usually a good place for a lunch stop. Whenever I take my grandchildren there they opt for the "lamb meat soup. "

After that it is time to go to the Golden Waterfall; one of Europe's most powerful waterfalls.

A popular extra stop on the way back to Reykjavik is "Kerid"; a crater. Admission not included.

The Golden Circle is an absolute must when in the South of Iceland. The route takes us to the famous "original" Geysir all other geysirs take their name from. Although it is technically active, it has not erupted since 2016. However, it's neighbouring geysir, Strokkur, is putting up a show every 10 minutes.

Gullfoss waterfall is one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls placed in the Hvítá river and close to Geysir.

On our way to Geysir, we stop at Þingvellir, where the first national parliament in the world was established in 930. The Viking Age Congress is placed in scenic surroundings on the Atlantic Ocean ridge between the American tectonic plate and the Eurasian plate.

We will have lunch, either at the Tomato farm, Friðheimar, or at a local farm.

If weather and time allows we'll add some stops, such as at crater Kerið, or the Secret Lagoon before the drive back to Reykjavik
