There is an old belief that Hungarians came from space! These myths started when talented, Hungarians started working in the USA in the 20th century. Jewish refugees fled the country during World War II, "unwelcome" people left during the communist regime. The immigrant scientist working in the States were the so-called "Martians. " The myth of the Martian origin probably started in Los Alamos when they reported: "The production of scientists and mathematicians in the early 20th century was so prolific that many otherwise calm observers believe Budapest was settled by Martians in a plan to infiltrate and take over the planet Earth. " The stories were agreed upon by many since the Hungarian scientists talked to each other in their mother tounge which has a strange and unique language structure. In this tour I will share more about the "Martian" stories, about our scientists and inventions (that you probably use daily), while we discuss the educational system in Hungary.
