Herend is the center of artistic porcelain production in Hungary and is the world's largest porcelain factory, which has been operating for over 180 years. It is not just by chance that the most famous rulers of the 19th and 20th century, such as Queen Victoria, Hungarian King Franz Joseph and his wife Queen Elisabeth, Alexander von Humboldt, Nikolas II of Russia, and Lady Diana, all fell in love with Herend porcelains. One of the most famous and favored patterns still in was named after Queen Victoria, and a Herend porcelain tableware set decorated with the 'new Victoria pattern' was given by the Hungarian Government as a gift to Kate and William's wedding, Take a chance, and see the production of those masterpieces locally, admire the past's artworks in the factory's museum, have a cup of tea or coffee from an original Herend porcelain cup, and shop your personal souvenir from collection bought by royals and noblemen.
The three main attractions in Herend are: - the Porcelain Museum, - the Mini Manufactory, - the Coffee and the Porcelain Shop. At the Herend Mini Manufactory, one can see the fascinating process of how the heavy mass of kaolin clay becomes fragile porcelain, and how the craftsmen shape, decorate and paint the material. - The tour in the Mini Manufactory starts with an interesting short movie about the story of the Herend factory from 1826 to the present day. - Then you can visit the museum and the shop. - In the coffee shop I invite you for a cup of tea or coffee served in original Herend porcelain cup.
