If you love wine as I do and if you are looking to experience breathtaking scenery with a local viewpoint and learn about the place where Hercules killed the lion and performed the first of his 12 labors while tasting some of the best wines of Greece, then this tour is a great option for you. All is happening in Nemea, the mythical land of heroic Hercules and we cannot skip a visit to the ancient site of Nemea, where we explore the Temple of Nemean Zeus and we see the impressive Ancient Stadium that was built in 330 B. C From the mythological feats of bravery, it is time to discover and taste another talent the ancients had: the winemaking. We visit 2 local wineries to taste unique varieties of wine and of course the legendary Agiorgitiko wine, accompanied by Greek delicacies, while meet the producers and discuss with them the details of wine making in the Greek land.
We start your tour from our meeting point in Nafplio and we head to the region of Nemea. Forty five minutes later we visit the Archeological site of Nemea where we admire the sanctuary that was set up for Zeus, the father of Heracles, and The Stadium of Nemea. Then we visit two wineries of the region, we tour in their vineyards and we taste unique varieties of wines, accompanied by Greek dishes. We learn about the special varieties of the area, like Moschofilero, Roditis (white variety) and Agiorgitiko (red variety), we meet their producers and we discuss the details of wine making. Finally we take the road back for our departure point. Note: The itinerary can be adapted to your interests.
