Has it ever crossed your mind what happened in Athens after the ancient times? After the Acropolis? What was the Medieval period like? What was the Byzantine Empire? You will hear refferences to this term while in Greece, or if you visit Turkey or Italy, yet it is covered in a fog of mystery. Why is it named like that? What is its relation to Greece? Is it similar to the medieval period of western Europe? Most intriguing: which is its relation to the Renaissance? These and many other questions will be answered by me, a licensed guide and archaeologist specialized in the Byzantine period. This is an utmost interesting museum, one of the best in the world regarding this period, renovated and extended in recent years. It is guaranteed that you will be impressed!
• We can meet at Syntagma square, today's downtown Athens, where the Parliament and the Presidential Guards are. After some information about those, we will start a very pleasant, fifteen minutes walk towards the museum, during which we will enjoy century-old mansions, used for other purposes nowadays. • The National Garden will be on our right and - if you wish - we may have a slight detour so as to see the barracks of the Presidential Guards, the Prime Minister's and the President's Houses, as well as the archaeological site of the School of Aristotle, the famous ancient Greek philosopher! • Then we will enter the forecourt of a mid-19th c. mansion, surrounded by lush gardens, which partially houses the Byzantine museum. • After visiting it, you may decide to have a light lunch at the peaceful cafe-restaurant of the museum. Nearby are four other interesting museums, which you may wish to visit later on your own. Tour can be customized upon request
