Why this tour? To experience the birthplace of the most important athletic event of all times, the Olympic Games but also authentic Greece, from a local point of view. A full-day trip to the most celebrated sanctuary of ancient Greece; Ancient Olympia the "Valley of Gods". To explore the Peloponnese which retains a great deal of authenticity and combines diverse natural landscapes, major cultural landmarks, and is ideal for road trips like this tour. You, as a visitor to Olympia, will have a chance to run down the original Olympic track and visit the museum. The Olympic Games were held at this location every four years throughout Classical antiquity, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD. Lunch and drinks will be our treat, for you to experience some really authentic Greek culinary delights in a non-touristy location. An important part of all my tours.
Start at 8 a. m. From your Athens accommodation or port or airport, we drive west towards the region of Peloponnese. ☼ Corinth Canal. The Canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. ☼ Ancient Olympia hosted the original Olympic Games, founded in the 8th century B. C. Its extensive ruins include athletic training areas, a stadium, and temples dedicated to the gods Hera and Zeus. ☼ Olympia Archaeological Museum. You will also visit the world-famous Olympia museum and get the chance to see some unbelievable sculptures, such as the sculpted decoration of the marble temple of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the famous Hermes carved by the ancient Greek sculptor Praxiteles. ☼ Lunch & Drinks. An air-conditioned large 2022 FORD sedan does all transportation. A 2022 Ford minivan can also accommodate larger (private) groups, but please remember that you'll need to be part of the same family or friends. The pricing shown is for two people, but if your group is larger, please contact me for a customized quote.
