In the summer of 1936, Berlin welcomed the world as host of the Olympic Games. Airports were expanded, grand stadiums were built, and anti-Jewish banners were temporarily removed from the streets. The city presented itself as a symbol of unity, celebrating Olympic ideals of friendship, excellence, and respect among nations. But just 20 miles to the north, a very different reality was unfolding. As the world watched the Games, the SS was constructing a new concentration camp built with forced labor and designed to refine the Nazi system of oppression. Here, lessons from earlier camps were implemented with chilling efficiency, setting the stage for what would become an even more ruthless machinery of persecution. This is Sachsenhausen.
This full-day tour begins with a morning pickup at Warnemünde cruise port followed by a three-hour drive to Sachsenhausen, one of the most significant sites in the Nazi concentration camp system. At the Sachsenhausen Memorial, we will spend 2.5 hours exploring its history, learning about the camp’s structure, the daily struggles of prisoners, forced labor, medical experiments, and "Station Z", the execution facility where thousands lost their lives. This visit is not about sightseeing—it is a chance to confront history, honor its victims, and deepen our understanding of the past. After leaving Sachsenhausen, we continue to Berlin, where you'll have time for lunch at a local restaurant before a short historical tour by van, connecting key sites to Germany’s complex history of war, division, and reunification. We will then return to Warnemünde, ensuring you arrive on time for your scheduled departure. **This tour can be tailored to your interests - please reach out for a customized itinerary.**
