Potsdam Experience - Day Trip from Berlin

Potsdam is my favourite neighbouring town of Berlin to enjoy architectural and natural beauty. Located at the banks of the Havel river and surrounded by several lakes it's a real pleasure to walk through the historical city center with its 18th century houses. Initially a garrison city and residence of the Hohenzollern dynasty it largely maintained its original character. Highlights in Potsdam are the Palaces of the Prussian dynasty, specially Sanssouci Palace, constructed by order of Frederic II. , remains a Rococo jewel. We can talk about the ideas behind the forms and savor the views. "Frederic the Great" is one of the most famous rulers in german speaking countries, you will know why at the end of the day (some of the many anecdotes about him included). If you are also interested in afterwar Politics we should visit Cecilienhof Palace where the "Big Three", Truman, Churchill and Stalin, met to discuss borders and reparations. A wonderful setting in a park next to what became the KGB-quarter.
