Come and revel in the glories of the mystical and fairytale dream castle, Neuschwanstein. Literally meaning 'new swan stone' you will step into one man's dream and imagine the life of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. Born into greatness, a visionary ahead of his time, you will see the best of his legacy. Set in the foothills of the Alps, we will wander in the same steps the King took, climb the hill or take the bus (recommended, weather dependent) to where Ludwig laid the foundation stone for his private palace in 1869. We can catch some of the best views of the castle from the Marienbrücke (Marie's bridge, also weather dependent with availability). Bringing together old Germanic stories with the themes Richard Wagner used for some of his operas, I will share the history of this castle, making it come alive during your journey. King Ludwig's passion for drama and escape in this castle will leave you wanting for more. You will learn who the King was, his life, and exactly what Neuschwanstein meant to him.
We will travel promptly by an early train from Munich and enjoy the day in the beautiful backdrop of the German and Austrian Alps. On arrival we begin our journey to the castle and picturesque viewpoints. There is a bus in the Spring/Summer/Autumn to take up the hill to the viewing bridge. In winter we walk up the hill to the castle. A carriage is available to you if you choose (8Euros one way). ***Please note the tour inside the castle is managed by the Bavarian Administration of Palaces which allows only their own guides for the thirty-minute official tour. ***I cannot guarantee entrance tickets and will inform you if this is the case. Afterwards, a stop for lunch at a snack stand/café (recommended) for good sausage, schnitzel, or sandwich is ultimately your choice. We will take a taxi back to the train station. We will then travel back to Munich with the estimated time of arrival being either 17:20, 18:20 or 19:20, depending on how leisurely you choose your day to be.
