This is your tour to Neuschwanstein, the grandiose fairy tale castle of King Ludwig II of Bavaria. We head to the castle via the pretty way, through the charming Bavarian countryside. On the way, you will learn all about the history of the castle and its builder, the eccentric King Ludwig II of Bavaria. This background story illuminates the king's struggle to cope with his position and desires, as well as the magnificence of what he created.

On the classic tour we head first through the beautiful Bavarian countryside to Neuschwanstein for a late morning tour inside the famous "Disney" castle. Lunch Bavarian Style is next, and then we travel via Austria and a spectacular alpine lake to Linderhof, the small palace where Ludwig actually lived. We top the day off with a visit to the charming town of Oberammergau, famous for the Passion Play, wood carvings and Lüftlmalerei (wall paintings).

A Day Trip from Munich to Germany's Most Spectacular Castle

This is a full day tour to combine the sights of Sound of Music and Eagle's Nest, Eagle's Nest is only open from May to October. The trip takes you first on a city tour including the Mirabell gardens, festival hall, Stift Nonnberg Abbey, Palace Leopoldskron, Fronburg and the Gazebo in Hellbrunn. Then we drive to the area of Berchtesgaden to visit the Eagle's Nest or Saltmine, where you can have lunch. On the way to the lake district you will see the opening scenery. The tour takes you to the lakes Fuschlsee, Wolfgangsee, Krottensee and Mondsee. The Basilica of Mondsee is the highlight as it is the wedding church in the movie.

This part driving, part walking tour starts at your hotel and we will first visit Nymphenburg Palace. This palace is a beautiful Baroque Palace built 1664 by the prince-electoral couple Ferdinand Maria and Henriette Adelaide of Savoy in 1664 after the birth of their son Maximilian II Emanuel. We will have time to visit the Marstall Museum with its wonderful Carriages of the Royal family of Bavaria.
We will stroll through old town enjoying one of the lovely beer gardens.

Berchtesgaden boasts 3 genuine highlights that travelers from around the world enjoy: the Eagles Nest, the serene Lake Königssee and the fantastic Salt Mines.

The Eagles Nest is a historic house from WWII. The story of the house is riveting, including the 124m (400ft) brass elevator. The views from the top - 1834m (6000ft) - are spectacular. Access to the Eagle's Nest is weather dependent; it is open from mid May to the end of October

The Königssee is a deep - 190m (620ft) alpine lake in a national park. Only electric boats ply the waters and they take you out to a peaceful spot where the St. Bartholomew's church serenely stands.

The Salzbergwerk is a working salt mine with a fantastic tour. A train takes you 1. 3km (8/10 mile) into the mountain where you learn all about salt mining, take a boat ride and go down two slides.
