From the poor Turkish work immigrants of the 60's, through the radical leftist AMTIFA activists of the 70's, the punks and dark rockers of the 80's, the Arab clans of the 90's, the Gay scene and the (now rapid) gentrification of the 2000's, Kreuzberg is by far the most interesting, diverse and colorful neighborhood in Berlin. In this food and culture tour, we sample some of Kreuzberg's most famous dishes while learning the story of the people who made them - locals, foreigners, immigrants, and renegades.
Kreuzberg is a big district, and we will combine walking and public transportation in order to visit some special food venues. The exact itinerary will vary according to the time of the day and seasonal offering and opening time, but you can expect to try out the famous Berliner Currywurst, a Turkish Cikofte, some Sudanese Makali and a German Kartofel pancake. Hopefully, your thirst will allow you to sample some local beers, brought to you directly from the "Spaeti" (Berlin slang for. . . a Kiosk) I am happy to customize this tour according to your food preferences or dietary restrictions, please contact me for a customized tour.
