Before Hitler, a third of German Jews lived in Berlin. To get an intimate view on life before and during Nazi dictatorship, let me take you on a walk around the New Synagogue and Hackescher Markt. I'll tell you stories of hide-outs, betrayal, and survival in the small, most impressive museum of Otto Weidt's Workshop for the Blind, one of my favorite places in Berlin, as it breaks down the immensity of the crime to individual stories. I'm an expert of National Socialist and Jewish History of Berlin, striving to convey this darkest chapter of German history in a sensitive, informative way. The importance of Berlin Jews for the city's history, e. g. the art sponsor James Simon, or painter Max Liebermann, is eminent.
