Kakheti is the most extensive wine region we have. Georgia is known as the "Cradle of wine" as the oldest 8000-year-old grape in the world, was discovered here. Georgian wine-making technology is also the oldest in the world. Wine is made in a clay vessel (Qvevri) that is buried underground. This means that wine as we know and appreciate it was invented in Georgia. (Most likely by accident while storing grapes for winter. ) But the most remarkable thing about the Kakheti region is that we can still visit wineries that we call "Marani" where we keep making wine the same way our ancestors did.
