Do you want to see a real castle? Have you ever imagined life in the Middle Ages? Come on my tour to learn about the medieval castle - its construction, its features, its defenses. This is a kid-friendly tour that will please the whole family! We will visit a real castle, located only 30mins from the city centre, built from 1360 to 1410. What makes this tour unique : I provide the historical context to help you & your kids learn abut life in the Middle Ages. I share extensive material about attacking & defending castles, explaining the features of a castle & its defensive elements. What is a curtain wall, what is a moat, what siege engines were used to attack castles? Children will discover what life was like in a castle. How did kids spend their time in the Middle Ages? We see a "typical day" in castle life & I provide a small brochure as a leave behind, explaining the main features of a castle & the key elements of medieval life. The tour may be customized to fit your requirements.
We will meet at a convenient location along metro line 1 - in front of the metro station Louvre Rivoli. Alternatively I can pick you up at your hotel. We will then take the metro & visit the Castle, its grounds & its beautiful late Gothic-style chapel. We will take the drawbridge over the moat & enter through the main tower. We will visit the keep & its residential area. We'll see the king's bedroom, his study & his treasury. We'll make the rounds on the wooden terrace which commands views for miles around, just like the guards did in the Middle Ages. We will climb a dizzying spiral staircase to the top of the castle & see the battlements with its bell tower, just like the soldiers who once guarded the castle. Then we descend into the dungeons & servant's quarters. Along the way we will see graffiti left by prisoners in the 1700s & 1800s, etched into the walls. We will also visit a gothic chapel complete with gargoyles & stained glass. We then return to Paris to the same location. Any special interests?
