The Loire Valley is the largest french site to be on UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. That is deserved as it is on the banks of the Loire river that the french Renaissance flourished. Several italian artists and engineers such as Leonardo Da Vinci settled in this region that we still name "Garden of France", and thanks to the ambition of our Kings, they planted the seed of an astonishing artistic revolution that you are invited to admire in our beautiful castles. In Normandy, I will guide you towards the major sites of the Landing Beaches. It will allow you to understand the different steps of the landing operations and the progression of the Allied forces. You will be struck by the contrast between the peace and beauty of the area, and its war scars everywhere. Let's keep alive, through generations, the memory of the soldiers who fought in the terrible Battle of Normandy that started on June 6th, 1944. What better way to achieve this aim than going there?
I'll pick you up at 7:00am. After driving 1h30, we'll make a coffee stop. We'll drive to the 1rst site, Château de Chambord, perfect example of the Renaissance architecture in the Loire Valley and fruit of King Francis 1rst's ambition. For lunch, we will stop in the royal town of Amboise where Leonardo Da Vinci spent the last 3 years of his life. And last but not least, we will discover the Château de Chenonceaux, also known as "The Ladies' Castle", an architectural gem built across a river. After that, we'll head to Normandy. Night in Bayeux 2nd day - Pointe du Hoc & the Ranger Monument. One of the most impressive sites with bomb craters and bunkers to be explored. - Omaha Beach. It is possible to walk on the beach if you wish and the tide allows it. - Normandy American Cemetery. - Lunch in a fishing village. - Longues-sur-Mer artillery battery and its original guns. - Artificial allied harbor in Arromanches Return to Paris * Please let me know if you would like to modify the itinerary.
