Degas famously said that the only way to really understand art is to copy in the Louvre. Since it became a museum in 1794, artist, from Delacroix to Manet, have flocked here to immerse themselves and learn from the old masters. Follow in their footsteps, learn step by step and become part of the magic. You will be all set for success! Beginners very welcome. Apologies, entrance tickets not included
Meeting in front of the Pyramid we will make our way to one of the quieter galleries. After selecting a work to copy, we will observe and discuss its main characteristics then set to work. Installed on folding stools or a conveniently placed bench, armed with charcoal or chalks you will hone your observation and drawing skills. Learn to judge line intuitively, grade values, see, compare, vary your « handwriting ». I will share with you insights gained during a lifetime of studying Academic and less conventional techniques, including 4 years as accredited copy painter here, learning Flemish oil painting techniques. After the workshop, off we go to meet Mona Lisa, Winged Victory of Samothrace and all the masterpieces in the way.
