On August 19, 1942, the first important raid over Europe was launched over Dieppe. More than 3000 soldiers, mainly Canadians, were sent ashore and paid a heavy tribute. Two US rangers died as well. At the end of the day, the survivors, back to the UK, debriefed. 80 years after, the souvenir is still vivid and, every year, the locals are still commemorating the first attempt to liberate Europe from the Nazi barbarians.
From Le Havre, (1:30), Rouen (1 hour), we shall reach the coastal city of Dieppe. The tour will lead us to the 8 different sectors of the raid, and make us understand what was planned, and what finally happened. As the end of the day, we shall realize in which way this failure helped the Allied to save thousands of lives during the D-Day invasion, two years later.
