The City has an exceptional historical heritage and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, which includes le Palais des Papes (the most well-fortified house in the world" as described by the writer Froissart, the largest gothic palace in Europe"), the surrounding ramparts and the remains of a 12th-century bridge "the Benezet Bridge" over the Rhone (better known as the Pont d'Avignon). Since 1996, Avignon has been the capital of the Côtes du Rhône Wines route.

During this tour, we will stroll the medieval streets lined by XVII and XVIII mansions. And you will be immersed in the local, covered market "Les Halles" where you can smell the provencal flavours (lavender, thyme, rosemary, olive oil, tapenade, fougasse. . . ) and shop.

There shall be some walking as most old historical streets are narrow, made of cobblestone, and only accessible to pedestrians. Here most of the monuments date from the Middle-ages and were built during the reign of the different popes that lived in the Palais. You'll be going inside the Palace (many stairs).

Our next stop will be a family-owned olive mill. During the visit, you will learn about the whole process of olive growing, the harvest, the oil extraction, and finally the tasting.

After lunch, we will visit a fig farm, where 150 different kinds of figs are grown! If some are ripe you will get to taste different varieties, as well as jams, chutneys, mustard. . . this will be a unique experience, thanks to the adorable owner of the farm.

On this tour, we'll go to the commune of Chateauneuf-du-Pape to discover the wine of this renowned area, right from the vine to the glass.

The terroir is so unique that its the first AOC (Controlled Designation of Origin in french) ever created in France, you'll get to see the specificity of it.

We'll see the old city of Chateauneuf du Pape and understand its history as we visit different wineries in the morning, including a visit and tasting in two wineries.

The first one is a prestigious property.

The second one is more of a family winery. Afterwards, it's going to be time for a lunch break here!

Trace The Footsteps Of Vincent Van Gogh: A Walking Tour

Light, colours, contrasts. . . Arles works like a magnet for artists.

In 2024, impressionism celebrates its 150th anniversary !
Experience the moments of happiness or sadness that inspired Vincent Van Gogh in Arles.

During this tour, my proposal is to have a walk in the footsteps of Vincent Van Gogh. He arrived in Arles on 20th February 1888. He spent 16 months in this city.

Vincent was highly prolific during this period and made numerous paintings and drawings in and around Arles. He developed an expressive, individual painting style characterized by bold colours and dynamic brushstrokes.

Arles is where the famous related event of the "cut of the ear" happened. Gauguin returned to Paris soon afterward. Vincent was admitted to the hospital and discharged on January 7th. In late January , he suffered two more attacks and he returned to the hospital for a longer stay.
Arles is the place where he painted "starry night", "the sunflowers".
