The Saint-Michel district is one of Bordeaux's most popular neighborhoods. Firstly, because it's so lively and cosmopolitan, and also because it's famous for its Capucins market, also known as “the belly of Bordeaux”, where everyone goes to shop, share a seafood platter or a bottle of white wine! Historically, the Saint-Michel district is the “new town” of the Middle Ages, a new district built for the new inhabitants of the time, monks and pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. This is where you'll find a gigantic basilica, visited by numerous personalities including Victor Hugo, and also renovated by Viollet le Duc, the famous restorer of Notre-Dame de Paris.
I usually start my visits at the river's edge, because the districts were designed along the river's course! We'll walk along the river for a while, before entering the district through its artisanal lanes. Then we'll discover the Basilica, and if you're lucky, the flea market, before moving on to the large food market.

We can reach me thanks to the tramway (Porte de Bourgogne station or Saint-Michel station), then the tour is a walking tour. There are some cobblestones.

Let's meet on the riverside, next to the stone bridge. I usually make a sign at your name, so we can find each other faster !
