If visitors have never been to Bordeaux before, then this is the best introduction to our beautiful city! This tour leads you through the city centre where you will discover how Bordeaux developed as a bustling trade and culture centre all the way back from the Bronze Age to the Roman times, through the Middle Ages where the wine trade really took off, and up to the Golden Era (18th/19th century) where Bordeaux became the elegant urban centre it still is today (minus the traffic!). We will pass impressive, imposing, delightful, and sombre landmarks that will make you feel connected with Bordeaux. I'll also be pleased to point out the restaurants where we locals prefer to go as well as the coolest wine bars to relax after your day. The tour will end next to a lively area of restaurants and bars in case it coincides with lunch or dinner plans you may have. From palaces to typical streets with characteristic shops, this tour has something for everyone. Don't miss out on it!
-Our tour would start at the Place de la Comedie with the Grand Theatre. -We'd then walk by the Maison de Vin which houses the modern sommelier school and I will explain the Gironde Wine Map. -We'd continue to the Place Quinconces to learn about the Monument aux Girondins. -We'd then cross to the Allées de Tourny and learn about the Marches des Grands Hommes and the 18th Architecture by Jacques Gabriel, the king's Louis XV favourite architect. -Next, we'd dip into the rue Saint Catherine with all its shops and beautiful facades to discover this modern shopping street. -We'd have a brief stop at the Place du Parlement to admire the mascarons on the buildings and learn about more about the French Revolution. -Our tour would end on the iconic Place de la Bourse and its waterfront Mirror d'Eau. Perfect for photos! Resting spots are available if you prefer a slower pace. There are several opportunities to seek shelter in case of rain or glaring heat. This itinerary can be customized to best fit your preference.
