Discover the incredible German defence meant to prevent any attack from the Allied Forces, and the war logistic achievements created by these to go through the "Atlantic Wall". On this tour, we'll get to visualize the two most impressive examples around: The German Battery of Longue-sur-Mer and the artificial harbour in Arromanches. I'll also guide you in following the firsts steps of British soldiers on Gold Beach. Another landing that unfortunately is not as famous as those of its neighbouring countries, but just as important in defeating Nazi oppression, is the Canadian landing on Juno Beach. I'll help you following the progression of the 3rd Canadian infantry division during the first month of the battle until the liberation of Caen, which was one of the hardest objectives to be achieved after D-Day. If you have a special interest about any sites in the area, or you have any relative whose footsteps you'd like to follow, please let my know in advance so I can prepare & tailor the perfect tour for you.
•Our tour will start once I pick you up from either Bayeux or Caen, and take you to our first stop: Longues-sur-Mer Battery (one of the biggest German coastal Batteries' in Normandy). •Next, we'll head to Gold Beach & Arromanches-les-Bains, site of the landing of the 50th infantry division and where the last visible remains of the artificial harbour can be seen. •Then it's on to Juno Beach, where we'll visualize the objectives & difficulties faced by 3rd Canadian infantry division soldiers in Courseulles & Bernières. You'll have the opportunity to visit the Juno Beach Center, a museum entirely dedicated to the Canadian army. •Next, we'll visit the Canadian military cemetery of Bény-sur-Mer. •Afterwards, we'll go through «Hell's corner» to the Abbaye d'Ardennes, headquarters of a SS tank division, known for settled and murdered soldiers (Ardenne Abbey massacre). •We'll then visit the Canadian's garden next to the Abbey to remember the brutal executions' victims. •At last, we'll return to Bayeux or Caen.
