Emperor Haile Selassie named this charming town Debre Zeit (Mount of Olives) in 1955, but it reverted to its old name, Bishoftu in 1990. Bishoftu lies about 47 kilometers from Addis, and it is a favorite getaway for visitors seeking leisure and relaxation. Seven volcanic crater lakes lie within and around the city. Lake Hora, Bishoftu, Babogaya, and Kuriftu stand out among the others.
We will depart Addis for Bishoftu, which will take approximately one hour. Upon arrival, the journey will begin with a visit to Lake Bishoftu (Lake Hora), a beautiful circular volcano with a deep blue lake buried within its crater. Enjoy the tranquil atmosphere while photographing the stunning scenery. Then, travel to Lemma Guya Art Gallery, which is famous for its paintings on goat skin that incorporate hairs into the artwork. Next, take a trip around the local market to learn more about the town's daily life. Then you'll eat lunch at the resort on the shores of Lake Babogaya and take a boat ride on the lake. Finally, we'll drive back to Addis Ababa.
