Dominica has given birth to many centenarians and among them, Elizabeth Ma Pampo Israel who was the world's oldest leaving person at the time of her death in 2003. She was one hundred and twenty-eight. Even her neighbour died at the age one hundred and sixteen.

Ma Pampo once said to me that she enjoyed swimming in the river and attributed her love for nature as one of her secrets to longevity.

Spanny falls consist of 2 waterfalls. One very easy ten minutes hike and the other, quite challenging but the real adventurous ones will enjoy swinging on the ropes to get to it. This also, will contribute to longevity with the refreshing feel that comes with it.

Explore Dominica - Half Day private Tour

Begin this tour heading North from Roseau to visit the second largest town in the country, the beautiful Portsmouth. The first stop in this town will be in the popular Indian River, which is actually the widest one in Dominica. Not only is it the widest, it's also our contry's most picturesque river, with the huge roots growing at its bank. Just relax while an experienced boatman rows us along.

At just 10 minutes from this idilic area, we will dive into our country's history visiting an important landmark: Fort Shirley. This fort is known due to the revolt carried out by the African Slave Soldiers in 1802. Besides learning, you can expect to see some of the most scenic view of Portsmouth, as well as some artifacts that European soldiers used in order to fend off their enemies.

After walking up the hill, the Caribbean Sea will open its wide arms to welcome you for a swim at the Purple Turtle Beach. No doubt, some very cold Kubuli (our local beer) will make you adopt Dominica as your destination of choice!

Let's take an adventure to the North, the North east and then down to the East Central area of Dominica. We'll first take to the Carbits National Park and see Fort Shirley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's one of the few forts which were used during the war between the British and French colony here. A scenic view awaits you here.

On this tour we'll also go on a casual hike to a secret gem, where you'll get to discover the different species of plants and get experience the rare sighting of caribbean parrots. At the end of the hike, our destination will be even more breathtaking. The Emerald waters and natural formation of the rocks is an experience you can't miss.

On top of this, we'll drive down to one of the few accessible beaches of the island too, where the Atlantic Ocean crashes the shore. The view is astonishing, the sounds of the waves breaking, and the endless possibilities at your reach by visiting this side of the island. Nothing is more exhilarating than this!

Hike to Middleham falls + Ti Tou Gorge + Sulphur springs

Dominica's tallest waterfall located on the middleham estate thus giving it the name Middleham Falls.
The trail is not labeled as an easy hike. A bit steep. But accessible, roots and trunks form steps for better traction. The main waterfall Cascades down am amazing 250 feet into a deep circular pool usually forming a rainbow and a cold breeze when infront the waterfall.
There is a platform for viewing , standing and leaving bags and equipment if you wish to adventure down to the swimming pools below, or even up to the main waterfall.
One must exercise extreme caution when walking on the rocks , so non slippery shoes are highly recommended. The water is slightly cold but quite refreshing after the hike and leaves you feeling refreshed all the way back down.
Back to the Main road and we continue the adventure up to "ti tou gorge" where you can swim in the same places seen in the pirates of the Caribbean movie. Swim through the gorge and reach the waterfall!

Our first stop is at the Syndicate Nature Trail. A looped trail beautified my amazing roots and gigantic Gommier trees among others. The root formations are something to see.

The view points offer spectacular moments as we go around the trail, and also the perfect spot to feel the breeze, listen to the sounds of nature and be on the look-out for sighting of the different local bird species including Bananaquits, Tremblers, Bullfinches and not leaving out the Amazona Imperialis or Sisserou Parrot; The national bird of the island in it's favorite habitat.

Let's visit the North side of the island driving from the south along the western road and then into the interior of the land to the breaking point (Pont Casse). We'll make our first stop at Spanny Twin falls. A short walk will take us to the first waterfall and then the second waterfall is even more beautiful.
From there we continue east and then make a turn towards the North to tour "Pointe Baptiste Chocolate Factory" .

Best of Dominica Private Tour

One this tour we will discover some of my favourite places on the Island. There are so many , I wish we had more time . However I have selected four places that we can go to and find less traffic for sure . Especially if you're coming on a cruise ship . Many travellers visit the Emerald pool and Trafalgar falls and they're worth the views. . However this time I want to show you the Fresh water lake ! up at 2500 ft. There we will make tea to face the cold winds as we explore the area. On the way down we go into the village of wotten waven to see the volcanic activity taking place there. Sulphur Springs and hot mineral swimming pools.
Next on the list are Champagne beach and then Scott's head for lunch. It's where the ocean meets the sea. Great for snorkeling too.

Experience Dominica II (Private Tour)

After a scenic drive along the west coast of Dominica, we make our first stop at the Indian River. Another guide will take us on a boat. There are many amazing things to learn about the Indian River. The round trip takes about 2 hours including the stop at the river bar with a boardwalk.
Next we discover one of nature's wonders - a cold geothermal spring named "Cold Soufriere". This area, situated between the villages of Tane Tane and Penville in the North of Dominica, is the site of an old volcanic crater nestled along the slopes of the Bellevue Mountain. In case you want to have a locally prepared lunch before returning to Roseau, we can go to Bell Hall to the "Bellhall Beach spot" or to "Keepin it real " at toucari.

This is the original house used as the sorcerer's home in pirates of the Caribbean part 2.

Pont Casse, Jako Falls, Twin Falls; there we'll gather the herbs that we'll later use to make tea at our final stop at Ti Kwen Glo cho. A garden with naturally heated mineral water spas. Wild and Medicinal Dominica

African tulips, Bamboo and alot of beautiful flora to see as we drive from the west coast and up into the rainforest.
Our first stop is at Spanny twin falls. A 10 minute walk through the recently paved trail will take us to fall#1. The Second Waterfall is a only 5 mins up the rocks using a rope to escalate and descend, but nothing to fear if you are an experienced hiker. If not I'll be your guide.
From the falls we then visit and spend some time at Mero Beach. A beautiful black sand beach on the Caribbean side of the island with Bars and Restaurants where you can enjoy a local Creole lunch and rumpunch at Indee's beach spot.
