Step into Odense’s past with this walking tour, where we’ll explore the city’s transformation from the 19th century through the turbulent years of World War II. We begin at Nonnebakken Voldsted, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with Viking roots that later became part of the city's 19th-century fortifications. The second part of the tour focuses on World War II and the German occupation of Denmark. We will visit key locations such as the Ansgar Church and will pass in front of the Besættelsestidens ofre memorial (1940–1945), dedicated to those who lost their lives during the occupation. If the date you choose allows, we can then visit Fyns Militærhistoriske Museum (open Mondays and Thursdays), focusing on Funen’s military history, including WWII. As an alternative, we can visit Tidens Samling, a unique hands-on museum offering a look into Danish daily life in the 20th century. Whether you're passionate about history or simply curious, this tour offers a memorable and flexible journey through time.
- Nonnebakken Voldsted We begin at this UNESCO World Heritage Site, originally a Viking ring fortress, later repurposed as part of Odense’s 19th-century defense system - We then move on walking through the city to reach Ansgar Church, this was the first church built in the city since the Middle Ages and the Besættelsestidens ofre memorial, commemorating those who lost their lives during the occupation. - Museum Visit (based on day and interest) If your tour takes place on a Monday or Thursday, we can visit the Fyns Militærhistoriske Museum, which highlights Funen’s military past, including WWII artifacts and narratives. - The alternative is to visit Tidens Samling, a cozy and interactive museum where you can explore Danish everyday life across the 20th century
