Come and get acquainted with 1000 years of the history of the Jewish nation in Prague and Bohemia, get to know the former Ghetto, today a modern district with world famous shops. Hear about its golden times and turbulent events, all within a few blocks of the historic city with one ticket. The Jewish Quarter with its monuments and the Museum is permanently one of the 3 most visited museums in Prague. In addition to Jerusalem, the Museum is the most important and the largest Jewish museum in the World in terms of collections. I am a local licensed guide with knowledge of Jewish monuments and a genealogist looking for a family history of Czech ancestors. During the 3-hour customisable tour we will visit the Museum, active Synagogues, the Old Jewish cemetery and the Holocaust Memorial together. You will get to know the life in the Ghetto, its famous inhabitants and the legends that are still told today. For example, story from the 16th century about Rabbi Löw and how he created an artificial being, the Golem.
Within 3 hours of walking, you will learn about the fate of Czech Jews, who have always formed a significant part of Czech national history. We will walk through the former Ghetto and will visit the interiors of the Jewish Museum, one of the oldest Jewish museums in Europe. The basis of his collection are objects from defunct synagogues demolished during the redevelopment of the Jewish ghetto, as well as liturgical objects, books and archives from Jewish communities during WWII. The interiors to visit are the rarest Jewish monuments on our continent: Old Jewish Cemetery (the beginning of the 15th century) the oldest preserved Synagogue North of the Alps, Staronova (13th century) Pinkas Synagogue, Holocaust Memorial displaying names of nearly 80.000 victims of Holocaust Maisel Synagogue, an exposition of the 1000-year history of the Jewish community in Bohemia The Spanish Synagogue, built in the Moorish style Klausen Synagogue and Ceremonial Hall are currently closed for recontruction
